BrokerFreeRealEstate.com was a free advertising-driven listings service. It is designed to allow anyone to sign up and create real estate sales advertisements for free. Features included AJAX search by price, zipcode radius, and the usual sort of real estate data. Unable to generate revenue and produce a consumer success story, it shuttered Dec. 31, 2008. It launched just as the market began to rain pianos in August 2007.
The core of BFRE was a bootstrapped ColdFusion application I built over the course of 9 months. The application provides for membership signup and login, with user-created listings and an accompanying photo gallery. The application naturally has an administration module, allowing for membership editing and blocking, listing creation and editing, and other features required to run a user content-based site.
